Antes, quais veios de \u00e1rvore multiplicados em ramos, que num dia florescem, noutro frutificam&#8230; E legando-nos sementes, germinam, nova e ciclicamente. Melhor, pensar a vida por meio de fios progressivo-geometricamente expandidos, entre-cruzados, relacionados a imagens que, ponto a ponto, jazem em trama sobre tecido. \u00c0 semelhan\u00e7a dos bordados, como nos trabalhos de Bel Barcellos, ora apresentadas.<\/p>\n<p>Como bastidor que define o alvo da agulha ou carbono que transfere a imagem escolhida, as obras aqui reunidas tra\u00e7am uma pesquisa auto-referenciada, gra\u00e7as a uma sele\u00e7\u00e3o de fotografias de car\u00e1ter \u00edntimo, quer por heran\u00e7a familiar, quer por afetividade diversa, mas, acima de tudo, por que somam recursos a uma poss\u00edvel ret\u00f3rica feminina desejosa por reinventar sua genealogia. Assim: da foto, primeiro desenho, depois decalque e, por fim, costura; \u00e0 imagem, um \u2018passado a limpo\u2019, adicionado a distintos universos iconogr\u00e1ficos, tais como anjos, flores, frases e versos de melodias a correspond\u00eancias, sensibiliza o interesse rom\u00e2ntico da artista acerca das dores e del\u00edcias do fato de se existir. Mas para tanto, al\u00e9m de imagina\u00e7\u00e3o, \u00e9 necess\u00e1rio paci\u00eancia&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Eis os tra\u00e7os de uma d\u00e9cada envolta em mir\u00edades de fios e linhas, tecendo seu pr\u00f3prio tempo. Bel apresenta quarenta desenhos sobre papel, nove sobre len\u00e7\u00f3is e bordados (in\u00e9ditos) sobre quarenta e um len\u00e7os, al\u00e9m de um vestido. Neles, corpo e esp\u00edrito, raz\u00e3o e emo\u00e7\u00e3o polarizam os ciclos da vida. Contudo, enquanto os desenhos[1] lidam com os enigmas vitais sob a verve da transcend\u00eancia feminina, como em De t\u00e3o alvas, quase almas, em cujas silhuetas podemos vislumbrar bruxas ou freiras, libertinas ou libert\u00e1rias, santas ou diabas e, assim, refletindo a respeito do que vemos ou imaginamos; os bordados ampliam a reflex\u00e3o dirigindo-nos ao tempo em seus m\u00faltiplos sentidos. Ou seja: n\u00e3o somente cronol\u00f3gico, biol\u00f3gico, mas tamb\u00e9m, emocional, abstrato, enfim.<\/p>\n<p>A come\u00e7ar por Icl\u00e9a, vestido de casamento, simbolicamente de duas pe\u00e7as (saia e blusa), que apresenta o passado como futuro presentificado por fios e linhas: bordados s\u00e9pia da linhagem da artista (grifo, de mulheres) e decalques azuis de fragmentos gr\u00e1ficos on\u00edricos e textuais, como os extra\u00eddos de cartas de amor dos avos maternos da artista que adornam a indument\u00e1ria. Seria uma elegia ou um monumento ao tempo? Resta a pergunta&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Mas, pelo vi\u00e9s do humor c\u00e9tico, Bel Barcellos realiza uma homenagem \u00e0 soberania do tempo no fluxo da vida, nas s\u00e9ries Aurora de minha vida, inspirada em vi\u00favas (digamos) alegres sob ideias de que \u2018a vida continua\u2019, \u2018tudo passa\u2019 ou \u2018nunca \u00e9 tarde parta recome\u00e7ar\u2019; e Eu era assim, cujos bordados, da inf\u00e2ncia a ossos sorridentes, lembra-nos da mortalidade, como o fato de \u2018quanto mais velho se fica melhor se era\u2019. Oh Cronus salve (nos)! Ele \u00e9 senhor e conselheiro das ang\u00fastias, em (Des)encontros, s\u00e9rie motivada pelas separa\u00e7\u00f5es inevit\u00e1veis \u00e0 vida. O tempo \u00e9 imensur\u00e1vel e on\u00edrico nas fantasias sexuais de Adormecer da raz\u00e3o que chuleia e desfia ondas de prazer e sedu\u00e7\u00e3o, como quimeras e utopias er\u00f3ticas. Tamb\u00e9m \u00e9 hiato fr\u00edgido, em Alone Together, que pesponta rec\u00e9m casados an\u00f4nimos, solenes, posados para a posteridade. Ou, ainda, o tempo \u00e9 abismo e desterro, em Lamento, costurando melancolias.<\/p>\n<p>Nas dezesseis s\u00e9ries elaboradas, Bel Barcellos pensa a vida n\u00e3o por um, mais por muitos fios, transformando poesia t\u00eaxtil em tempo t\u00e1ctil.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Notas<\/p>\n<p>[1] &#8211; \u201cAlvas almas\u201d (sete desenhos evocando religiosidade e espiritualidade); \u201cCorpo estranho\u201d (sete desenhos remetendo a transes medi\u00fanicos); \u201cEncarnadas\u201d (seis desenhos acerca de sacrif\u00edcios ou rituais); \u201cTrabalho de mulher, brinquedo de crian\u00e7a\u201d (10 desenhos relacionando a espiritualidade existente entre a curiosidade pueril e a \u00edndole feminina); \u201cElas v\u00eam trazer encanto ao mundo\u201d (cinco nus); \u201cDesejo\u201d (sete desenhos acerca do prazer e sedu\u00e7\u00e3o) e, por fim, \u201cDesassossego\u201d (sete desenhos sobre a ang\u00fastia do estado insone).<br \/>\nObserve-se nesta \u00faltima s\u00e9rie o contraponto estabelecido entre a iman\u00eancia do corpo e a transcend\u00eancia do esp\u00edrito. O corpo, como chumbo, n\u00e3o liberta a leveza do esp\u00edrito. Rather, like the veins of trees multiplied into branches, that one day flourish, one day bear fruit\u2026 And bequeathing us seeds, germinate, anew and cyclically. Better yet, to think of life by means of threads progressively and geometrically expanded, intertwined, related to images that, stitch by stitch, lay in weft above the fabric. Like embroideries, like Bel Barcellos\u2019 work, here presented.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Like an embroidery frame that defines the target of the needle or the carbon that transfers the image, the works here selected trace a self-referential research, thanks to a collection of intimate photographs, maybe due to being a family inheritance, maybe due to some other affectivity, but, overall, because they add to a possible feminine rhetoric eager to reinvent its genealogy. Thus, from the photo, comes a drawing, then a decal, and finally, the embroidery; onto the image, a \u00b4transfer\u00b4, added to distinct iconographic universes, such as angels, flowers, phrases and melody verses, sensibilizes the artist\u2019s romantic interest regarding the pains and delights of existing. But to do so, beyond imagination, patience is required\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>These are the traces of a decade surrounded by a myriad of lines and threads, weaving its own time. Bel presents forty drawings on paper, nine on linen sheets and forty-one embroideries on handkerchiefs, in addition to a dress. In them, body and spirit, reason and emotion, polarize the cycles of life. However, while the drawings [1] deal with the vital enigmas under the verve of female transcendence, such as in Whiteness, quasi- souls, in whose silhouettes we can glimpse witches or nuns, libertines or libertarians, saints or devils and, thus, reflecting on what we see or imagine; the embroideries broaden the reflection leading us to time in its multiple meanings. That is: not only chronological, biological, but also, emotional, abstract, anyway.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Starting with Icl\u00e9a, a wedding dress, symbolically in two-pieces (skirt and blouse), that presents the past as a future presented by threads and lines: sepia embroideries of the artist\u2019s lineage (that is, women) and blue decals of oneiric graphic and textual fragments, such as those extracted from the artist\u2019s paternal grandfather\u2019s love letters that adorn the clothing. Is it an elegy or a monument to time? The question remains\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>But, through skeptical humor, Bel Barcellos pays tribute to the sovereignty of time in the flow of life, in the series Aurora of my life, inspired by (let\u2019s say) happy widows under the idea that &#8216;life goes on&#8217;, &#8216;everything passes&#8217; or &#8216;It&#8217;s never too late to start over&#8217;; and I was like this, whose embroideries, from childhood to smiling bones, remind us of mortality, like the fact that &#8216;the older one gets the better it was\u2019. Oh Cronus save us! He is the lord and counsellor of anguishes, in Farewell, a series motivated by the separations that are inevitable to life. Time is immeasurable and oneiric in the sexual fantasies of The sleep of reason that sews and unravels waves of pleasure and seduction, like chimeras and erotic utopias. It is also a frigid hiatus, in Alone Together, which stitches solemn anonymous newlyweds, posing for posterity. Or, yet, time is abyss and banishment, in Lament, sewing melancholies.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>In the sixteen series here presented, Bel Barcellos reflects on life not through one, but through many threads, transforming textile poetry in tactile time.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em>Footnotes<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>[1] White souls (seven drawings evoking religiosity and spirituality); Foreign body (seven drawings relating to mediumistic trance); Incarnate (six drawings related to sacrifices and rituals); Women\u2019s work, child\u2019s play (ten drawings relating the existing spirituality between childish curiosity and the female nature); They come to delight to the world (five nudes); Desire (seven drawings regarding pleasure and seduction) and, at last, Unrest (seven drawings on the distress of insomnia).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>In this last series there is a counterpoint between the immanence of the body and the transcendence of the spirit. The body, like lead, does not liberate the lightness of the spirit.
