A pintura de Bel Barcellos

\n1997<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>Duas s\u00e3o as grandes linhagens em que se dividem os pintores: a linear<\/em> e a pict\u00f3rica<\/em>. A primeira, re\u00fane os artistas que preferem contornar nitidamente a forma ou as figuras que aparecem em suas telas. A segunda, aqueles que preferem pintar por manchas, de modo tal que as figuras ou formas abstratizantes de seus quadros s\u00f3 gradativamente se destacam do campo que as envolve. Ingres era um pintor linear<\/em>. Rembrandt era pict\u00f3rico<\/em>.<\/p>\nAmbas as linhagens s\u00e3o leg\u00edtimas e cada um de n\u00f3s pode escolher uma ou outra, de acordo com nossas prefer\u00eancias pessoais. Quanto a mim, desde muito mo\u00e7o tinha prefer\u00eancia pelos pintores lineares. E a discrimina\u00e7\u00e3o s\u00f3 se acabou por causa de um acontecimento de certa maneira alheio ao campo da Arte: foi vendo uma reprodu\u00e7\u00e3o colorida do Santo Sud\u00e1rio<\/em> que de repente percebi a for\u00e7a de uma pintura que, como ali, usasse a mancha e o claro-escuro como base de sua linguagem.<\/p>\nDepois da\u00ed, os preconceitos se acabaram ou diminu\u00edram – e eu pude apreciar melhor certos quadros, inclusive alguns pintados por meu filho Dantas Suassuna.<\/p>\n
Esta foi a reflex\u00e3o que me veio ao esp\u00edrito assim que me vi diante da pintura de Bel Barcellos. Nela, a t\u00e9cnica da linhagem pict\u00f3rica<\/em> aparece quase que em estado puro, \u00e0s vezes em sugest\u00f5es de figuras (como em \u201cVest\u00edgios do olhar\u201d, por exemplo), mas outras vezes adotando apenas formas abstratas ou abstratizantes. \u00c9 uma pintura bela, forte e que, ao ser colocada diante de meus olhos me sacudiu fortemente, porque mostrou ao velho escritor que sou hoje, que, \u00e0s vezes, \u201ca ess\u00eancia da Pintura tamb\u00e9m pode ser a M\u00fasica imobilizada\u201d (para usar, a meu modo, palavra de Nov\u00e1lis sobre a Arquitetura).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>

\n1997<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>There are two great lineages by which we can divide painters: the linear and the pictorial. The first consists of artists that rather clearly outline the forms and figures in their canvasses. The second, those that rather paint in blots, so that their figures or abstract forms only gradually stand out from the space that envelops them. Ingres was a linear painter. Rembrandt was pictorial.<\/em><\/p>\nBoth lineages are valid, and each of us may choose one or the other according to our personal preferences. As for me, from an early age there was a preference for linear painters. And the prejudice only ended due to an event that was in some ways removed from the realm of Art: It was by looking at a colored reproduction of The Shroud of Turin that I suddenly realized the strength of a painting that, like this one, used blots and chiaroscuro as the basis for its language.<\/em><\/p>\nAfter that, the prejudices subsided and I was able to better appreciate certain paintings, including some by my son Dantas Suassuna.<\/em><\/p>\nThis was the reflection that dawned upon me as I found myself in front of Bel Barcellos\u2019 painting. In it, the techniques of the pictorial lineage appear almost in pure state, sometimes suggesting figures (as in \u201cVestiges of seeing\u201d, for example), but others appearing only as abstract or abstracting shapes. It\u2019s a wonderful picture, strong, and one that, once placed upon my eyes, rattled me deeply, because it showed the old writer I am today that, sometimes, \u201cthe essence of Painting may also be immobilized Music\u201d (to use, in my own way, words from Nov\u00e1lis regarding Architecture).<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
